Now THAT'S what I'm talkin about!   I didn't know the 49's burner was in the back of the firebox though.

Some stunning video clips for sure. I liked everything except the music.  Also wondering what is the point of the movie.  There was no voice set-up or anything to tell us what the greater film is to be about!  Either way nice to see great shots of 4449.

BNSF paid for this, imax movie I assume, same company that did the CP  movie, be great to see the whole  deal, the other movies they have done, bnsf on the mainline,  toronto streetcars

By far some of the greatest footage captured of the 4449.  As others have said, WOW!  Quite excited to be able to see this film, simply for the 4449 scenes!

Not quite. The movie company negotiated at length to produce this epic, and paid the BNSF.

I noticed that mistake also. Maybe because his people are used to the Canadian Hudson, #2860?

The Imax documentary Train Time, which has been in production for 5 years, was tentatively scheduled for release in July 2020. Of course, that is likely to change because of you know what.

Where are the burners in the 4449?

The burner, i.e. there is only one, on 4449, 844, 3985, 4014, 3751, 1522, and 2926 (and virtually ALL other oil burning steam locomotives in the U.S.), is mounted in the front portion of the firebox, at the bottom of the throat-sheet for the combustion chamber. Thus, the burner flame propagates rearward towards the firebox door sheet, then curls forward into the combustion chamber and out through the flues & tubes. The CPR Hudson #2860, and maybe all the other CPR oil burners, has the burner located below the firedoor, i.e. in the rear of the firebox.

Also WOW! Awaiting the release.

I have "Rocky Mountain Express" on Blu Ray and am looking forward to this because I love the 4449!

Not mentioned is that the 2860 also has a brick arch with the burner aligned to hit it.  Most unusual for an oil burner.

That really is some stunning film of the 4449.

Ross’s persistence, to pursue the AFT, the indefatigable enthusiasm of the HICO crew (Andy Adams, Russ Shipman, Al Phillips,)

But especially Doyle & Laurie
McCormack —- all were there at
very beginning..

We were all Young friends, and we clustered around the Dream of the 4449..

It’s now clear, that Jack Holst had that same dream... without his efforts, it might have been out of reach... its mysterious how these
Events come about... you can’t really reconcile it with ‘logic’ — it’s bigger than that!

We ought to be Planning a reunion of sorts as the movie comes to the screen... We can all maintain 6 ft or 12 ft of healthy clearance..
The engine is big enough!

thanks Wes for your posting......I would echo your thanks to the City of Portland along with all the others.....I am just finishing a 4-part newsletter series for the Pacific NW Chapter, NRHS on the Finnish 418 steam locomotive that was acquired in 1958 along with the other steam locomotives (4449, 700, 3203) and other equipment.   while the city's plan for a trainsportation museum fell through.....the fact that four steam locomotives were saved from the scrapper, I think, made the city's effort a giant success.    stay well.          Arlen

That is one fine production.  I am so glad to have had the opportunity to be associated with the 4449 in minor things.  Some of that great aerial footage will explain some of the flyovers we have experienced while riding or just watching the 4449 and her consists run, and you could not find a better pair of persons to work with than Doyle and Laurie.  Thanks for all of the great experiences you have provided for all of us.

That was absolutely stunning! Who could NOT love seeing the 4449 strutting her stuff?
