Sad railfanning! === === = === JLH

Date: 06/01/20 19:20 Re: 4-8-4 2912 perhaps wistful Author: ShoreLineRoute I was astounded to see it out in the open like that when I visited it in 2017. I worry about what could happen to it.

Date: 06/01/20 23:24 Re: 4-8-4 2912 perhaps wistful Author: NYC_L4a I like the phot but I wouldn't call it "sad". Wistful maybe, but not sad. Sad would be the 2912 looking tattered, or worse yet turned into galvinized garbage cans,

Greg Date: 06/02/20 12:27 Re: 4-8-4 2912 perhaps wistful Author: Frisco1522 To the Frisco's credit, when they restored an engine for donation they removed all the lagging and tacked bands around the boiler to hold the jack at the right distance from the surface. Makes a big difference.

They would probably be happy if you were to volunteer to take charge of that. In my opinion they have accomplished quite a lot since 2009 when the photo below was taken. Gordon Date: 06/02/20 16:53 Re: 4-8-4 2912 perhaps wistful Author: Frisco1522 What happened with the restoration effort a few years back?
Gordon is right, however the bunch who took it all apart should have at least put the running boards, etc, back on. But at least it has fresh paint. Date: 06/04/20 13:40 Re: 4-8-4 2912 perhaps wistful Author: TrackGuy Don,
The most official answer to that question that I've seen is that the boiler was found to be worse condition than they wanted to to mess with. Rob Date: 06/06/20 15:46 Re: 4-8-4 2912 perhaps wistful Author: Abqfoamer If nothing else, 2912's attempted restoration efforts inspired the almost-finished rebuild of sister loco 2926 in Albuquerque, needing only completion of boiler sheathing and minor cab work, and the coming remodel of just-received former ATSF baggage-now NMSX Tool Car 3939 into a trip maintenance, parts and support vehicle.
Pending insurance coverage and arrangements with private passenger car owners, 2926-led tourist train trips from Albuquerque to Las Vegas, New Mexico's recently-rebuilt former Fred Harvey Castenada Hotel are planned. Edited 4 time(s). Last edit at 06/06/20 21:31 by Abqfoamer. |
