Is it equipped for installation of rubber tires as well?

      Is it serviceable or a donated piece of crap that will cost thousands of $$$ to get and keep running.

It's a nice piece, this is old news, can remember where it was first posted but it's been a while.

Ok so read the artical not well but scanned it for the hi rail part. It is not a hi rail rig as that would be one that allowed running on both rail and roads this does not. Steering wheel is just there because nothing more nothing less something to hang on to. And about the junk comment oh well itt just another TO comment.

Super Speeder to the Rescue?

Doesn't look terribly useful for emergency use.  It also looks like it is single direction which means that it will need to be turned on a wye to go the other direction. It would probably go in reverse at a single speed, but visibility out the back is poor.  Large A series motorcars transmissions allowed for equal bi-directional speed. If they went to the trouble of modifying the transmission I think they would have modified the body to have a better rear visibility for moving in reverse.  Who is going to maintain the vehicle when not in use? I see it as forgotten about until they really need it and it won't startup.

A highrail vehicle would be more appropriate so the vehicle can be put on the rails where needed and used for everyday rescue needs.

Do they even make hy-rail kits for 3 foot gauge?  How would you get power to the rails? Just about any full size vehicle rear end would be too wide!

Most people, in North America at least, don't consider a Toyota Hilux pick up a "full sized" vehicle, but okay.
And this one appears to be in Australia judging from the terrain and the right hand drive.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why a Highrail truck needs an intake snorkle.
