Into the land of OZ
Author: Bob3985

Here we see UP 8444 eastbound in the land of OZ.
I don't recall the date or location and my book is at the office so I will relent to your assistance.
But here is the ole gal seen with a wig wag no less.

Hi Bob! Great shot! I was just wondering how you know it's eastbound if you don't know the location?

Look at how the sun angle appears.
I'll go with eastbound.

That looks like the Kansas Special running from Denver to Topeka on August 26-29. 1986.  The trip celebrated the 125th anniversary of Kansas statehood.

I'm guessing Solomon as the location.
or not.  I think the grain elevator is on the wrong side of the tracks.  Granted, a lot has changed since then.

Solomon did have those type of wig wags.  Don't remember when they were taken out.

Strasburg, Colorado, on UP's Limon Subdivision.  A wig-wag signal is preserved in the Strasburg Town Museum after their railroad career.

The Abilene & Smoky Valley railroad in Abilene, KS has a wig-wag from Solomon in their museum.  Chasing 8444 through Solomon on that trip in 1986, I saw a wig-wag on the east side of town.  I wish I would have stopped for a picture.
