Steam & Excursion > 8444 at Carr

After I had arrived to work for the UP I Iearned of their historic steam locomotive, 8444. 
The next year, 1977, I knew of its schedule as it was returning from Denver after operating an excursion run.
Here I managed to catch a photo at Carr Colorado as the train waited in the siding for a freight to go by.
The steam locomotive at this time was under the management of the mechanical department.

Good photo. There are so few people in the photo, and as for the flags, they make me glad I am an American.

Yes refarkes......I love the American flag too, and proudly wore it on my Army uniform for 6-years during Nam. That is where it belongs....not atop an historical steam locomotive.

I too served for 5 years in the US Army and think flying old glory on this locomotive is highly appropriate and attractive. I maintained standing orders with my crews through the years that we were to ALWAYS fly the American flag on any steam locomotive we dispatched.

While I was on the crew I do not recall us flying flags on the steam locomotives.

I love seing the flags on them in 1994 on the E9's for the July 4th trip to Portola I was on they had them.
