Steam & Excursion > WMSR / C&O #1309 3rd Steam Up - 29 June 2020Date: 06/30/20 08:39 WMSR / C&O #1309 3rd Steam Up - 29 June 2020 Author: DTWilson A photo essay that almost didn't happen because of a redirected loaded coal train on the Mountain Sub with DPU's ... but that's another story.
We made it to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad's Ridgeley, WV shops 20 minutes before the scheduled 1309 hr. Whistle Blow event. 1) Inside one of "Conductor Bill's" cars.... 2) #1309 outside the shop. In the background to the rear of #1309 one can spot the #734..... and to the right is the new "Office Car" for the WMSR. It will be used by the General Manager and his staff. 3) A little smoke........ .... More to Follow .... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/30/20 09:41 by DTWilson. 2) Adjusting the whistle cable.... 3) Outside the shop under steam....... ... More to Follow..... Date: 06/30/20 08:46 Re: WMSR / C& O #1309 3rd Steam Up - 29 June 2020 Author: DTWilson 1) & 2) Holes where the "Overfire Jets" were located......
3) Blower off shop air.... ... More to Follow .... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/30/20 08:54 by DTWilson. 2) The main reason for the visit.... The 9 yr old gets to blow #1309's whistle ....... with a little help from dad. (Photo taken with my camera by one of the crew members. Thank You Sir whoever you were....) 32 years earlier it was me whistling off as we departed with Jack Showalter's #1238 on another trip to Frostburg........ Thanks for stopping by and having a look. I cannot thank you enough for all the photos that you share with all of us here on Trainorders. They are all excellent photos and I really enjoyed seeing you and your son blowing the whistle. That is outstanding. I have made contributions to this restoration and hopefully this engine will be in operation shortly. All the best to everyone involved and please, everyone stay safe and well.

The engine is almost completed folks and it will help them immensely if any of you out here have not donated and wish to do so, please by all means, send them some money NOW, so that it will be steaming up to Frostburg very soon. Go to www.wmsr.com for details. Every dollar counts. John in White Marsh, Maryland |
