Steam & Excursion > C&TSRR = Rotary #7 = EngineerDate: 07/07/20 04:40 C&TSRR = Rotary #7 = Engineer Author: Wacky-roger1942 Inside the Rotary. Max was the engineer and it was so hot in there the GoPro shut down after only a couple of minutes. The plastic case that holds the GoPro melted so we had to order a new one and the GoPro is no longer working correctly.

Max is short enough to be able to get around in the engine room pretty easily. I met Max when he and Jeff ran the locomotive on one of our trips out of Antonito a couple of years ago. My thinking was it would be a real different look that most folks have never seen. Sorry your GoPro didn't work but I'm sure you have some other good ideas of things to show.

Roger Hogan Chama, NM Train Stuff Date: 07/07/20 10:06 Re: C&TSRR = Rotary #7 = Engineer Author: Trainhand Excuse my ignorance but, the engine is mounted with the piston running parallel to the track. Then you have to have some type differential to turn the blades I would think. My question is why not mount the engine so the piston operates vertically and the drive wheel is at a 90 degree angle to the track, then the shaft to the blades could mount directly to the drive wheel. Or is it just a case of me thinking, which usually does not lead to good results.
Thanks Sam Date: 07/07/20 10:10 Re: C&TSRR = Rotary #7 = Engineer Author: Wacky-roger1942 Trainhand Wrote:

Roger Hogan Chama, NM Train Stuff Date: 07/07/20 10:18 Re: C&TSRR = Rotary #7 = Engineer Author: callum_out Sam, simplest explaination would be that it gives you room for a large enough driven shaft gear to give a
decent reduction ratio to up the torque and reduce the blade speed. Out Date: 07/07/20 12:16 Re: C&TSRR = Rotary #7 = Engineer Author: Wacky-roger1942 callum_out Wrote:
