Two things stand out for me and tell me this could be very late in the steam powered Daylight era. Notice the stripes missing from the pilot, I don't think this occured before the '50s. Same thing with those missing skirts on the passenger cars. Inside, one does not notice such things, service and amenities are first rate, as always. The only downgrading that might have occured by now is in the triple unit diner/coffee shop. It may now be all coffee shop, with the former full dining service discontinued. Bob Date: 07/31/20 14:05 Re: SP GS-4 4456 West of Chatsworth Author: odub As with all too many of Elmer's pictures, I don't have a date. I'd say early 50s, though. He'd gone to a larger format camera by then.

One of the chair car porters forgot to close the door at the last stop. Date: 07/31/20 19:45 Re: SP GS-4 4456 West of Chatsworth Author: UP951West Extraordinary action photo. Thanks for sharing.

------------------------------------------------------- > Yes, and he'll be unloading some very grimy > luggage down the line. Was baggage kept on the elevator? I thought the point was to handle the carry-on baggage into the car, so the passenger didn't have to schlep it up the stairs. Didn't a porter hand the bags back to the passenger as they entered from the vestibule? Or place it in the overhead rack at their seat? Respectfully, Arved Grass Fleming Island, FL Date: 08/03/20 14:52 Re: SP GS-4 4456 West of Chatsworth Author: agentatascadero There were luggage racks at and above the floor level baggage doors at the vestibule end of the car. Also standard luggage racks above seats.
