Sometimes The Rolling Stock Is As Interesting As The Locomotives!
Author: LoggerHogger

While steam locomotives on any rail operation were certainly interesting, some outfits had rolling stock that was equally interesting  Here is one such example.

The date is July, 1955 and the steam era on the Simpson Logging Company operation in Shelton, Washington is coming to a close.  The diesels are in the process of taking over and the steam logging locomotives like Simpson 2-8-2T #12 seen here is already out of a job.  By the time of this photo she has lost the auxiliary tender that she had in her last days.  She now waits out the scrapper.

While this little saddle tanker certainly is of interest, so is that amazing coach that has been converted to a partial caboose with the addition of a copula to the clerestory roof.  Leave it to a logging company to come up with such an interesting scene for us to enjoy.

That is fantasic Martin, A little more glass in the roof and they would have a Vista Dome.  You made my day.  Hope some fans model it for their logging branch.

As always like all of the picture. I noticed the Studebaker in the parking lot. A 1950 version is what I learned to drive on. Thanks

Once again proving whatever crazy kitbash project you may come up with there was probably a prototype for it somewhere.

Looks like the cupola could be an old loco cab.

Yep, looks like a tank engine cab to me.

While it may resemble a cab off a tank engine, the cupola was entirely fabricated at the Simpson shops and was not taken off a locomotive.

Bet it was quite a climb up whatever ladder they concocted!

For my money, the rolling stock is always more interesting than the locomotives. Especially if it has been modified by the railroads. My favorites are Billboard Boxcars.

Here is a part of Simpson #12 that is still with us today.  The Baldwin #56634 that someone stamped #12" on the face of the plate.

Looks kind of fun in model form, too.

D&RGW  narrow gauge Pagosa Springs branch had such a "caboose".
