Going to Chama for school brings a whole new meaning to "distance learning."

How many cars can one K-36 reliably lift up the west side of the pass?

Depends on how heavy the cars are.  K-36's are good for 232 tons from Chama to Cumbres.  The passenger coaches wiegh 25-30 tons, open gons 20 tons.  Freight cars weigh 12-20 tons depending on if they are steel or wood construction.  The train Roger shot was 6 coaches and a gon - about 200 tons.

7 coaches and an open gon would be it for one 480.  If you average 15 tons per frreight car, a 480 should pull 15 empty freight cars.
