Here We See A Very Full House Of Nothing But Steam Locomotives!

This steam citadel has not yet been invaded by diesel locomotives.  All that would of course change in just a few short years.

I believe this is Southern Pacific's West Oakland roundhouse, but as the negative sleeve was not marked, I cannot be sure.  Regarless, it is a sight to behold.

Barstool photographed what was left of West Oakland in 1959-60.  Looks like a good match.  No diesels in those scenes either, but also no steam except in a deadline in the background:

Looks like a few to the left in this pix was wondering about the line on the right being dead or not also.

BAB......The llne in the middle is power that needs some fine tunning, the line on the right is 0-6-0's and 2-6-0's that handle yard and localdrag work and are just taking a break...SP was very busy handling the switching in Oakland,,,Sunday night was the buist as a fleet of WB' from Roseville would parade into West Oakland for Monday morning delivery..... ....

Thanks that very much answers my question makes much more senes now.   Knowing how much more it took to keep them running can understand what looks like dead engines.
