Chris back at home in Santa Ana Date: 10/13/20 10:48 Re: C&TSRR = Locomotive#168 At Bighorn Part 2 Author: Cumbresfan Another great video. Part 3 coming up?
Big Horn is a special place and you can see that from the air. It's in the middle of nowhere and you can't see anything man-made in any direction the drone points. Being fall, there are patches of color seen close by and in the distance. The presence of one family with a couple of young children and a dog adds to the scene - they will have memories that will last well into adulthood. Thanks again Roger! Roger Hogan Chama, NM Train Stuff Date: 10/13/20 12:52 Re: C&TSRR = Locomotive#168 At Bighorn Part 2 Author: callum_out I will take exception with cumbrefan's statement on the middle of nowhere considering that you can geto Big Horn in a limo.
Tis the proble, you pay for charters and exclusive places and they barely exist anywhere on the C&TS anymore. The Friend's charters at excellent prices used to sell you in days, last one didn't sell out at all. Just lamenting the days past I guess. And if you don't know the roads it can be tricky, but with vehicle GPS directing (which I don't have) it may get you there. I've been on lots of charters and there are locations out of the way where no vehicles can go and where we had photo runbys (Rock Tunnel, Mud Tunnel, Phantom Curve, plus Toltec siding). Cresco Tank, and Hamilton Point are two others that require a short hike if you know where to start. There are locations like Lava Tank and Whiplash Curve where ATV's can access. I really miss the RR this year; I was looking forward to the moonlight trip from Antonito to Osier and return at the end of July with the Friends that was canceled. But if I went would be confined to home this year due to NM Health Rules (recreational travel out of state requires 14-days isolation at home). IMHO all we can do is hope next year will be a lot better. Roger Hogan Chama, NM Train Stuff |
