UP 8444 and the onboard crowd
Author: gcm

Oct 78
A few shots showing some of the crowd who rode this excellent Denver-Laramie roundtrip.
Very scenic areas were picked for runbys.
In picture 3, I think just myself and a couple others noticed the UP freight in the background (a lead UP unit with three SP behind).

Gary, I sure enjoyed your slides from the UP 8444 Excusrion over Sherman Hill  ! Thanks for sharing.
Bob K., thanks for pointing out the locations of the photo runbys.
My first UP steam excursion was the previous year : Oct 1, 1977. The consist was about the same. It brought back great memories.
I caught a chronic case of  steam fever on that 1977 excursion. I really miss those UP steam excursions over Sherman Hill . The UP steam crew put on the greatest steam train show on earth and I will always be grateful to them for their extra efforts. I also appreciate the RR clubs that sponsored the trips on Sherman Hill and elsewhere. --Kelly

Your excellent photos capture the very essence of excursion runbys.
Thanks for posting photos taken from a perspective most try to avoid.

UP 844 in the Snow April 2010

My thanks to the steam crew who have kept Union Pacific's 844 running all these years.  2 April 2010 was a special day when UP 844 East climbed Archer Hill east of Cheyenne, WY, in the wind blown snow.
