An Interesting Pose With A Rarely Photographed Steam Train!
Author: LoggerHogger

There are still very few photos of trains on the North Pacific Coast Railroad north of San Francisco.  This 93-mile long narrow gauge line that ran out of Sausalito up to Duncan Mills was started in 1874 and was eventually either standard gauged to be part of the Northwestern Pacific, or abandoned all together.

In this view we see NPC 4-4-0 #20 emerging from a tunnel along the line.  She was built in the NPC shops in Sausalito in 1900.  She would later join the NWP roster as their #84.

For reasons known only to the photographer, they have posed 2 ladies in Sunday wear on top of the tunnel as #20 and her train emerged.

An unusual photo of a rarely seen railroad in operation.

Believe 1874 was the date the railroad started construction.  Rare image, indeed.

That looks like Tunnel 5, not too far from Monte Rio.

Nice photos of the NPC, have read about it but don’t think I’ve seen any photos.

Last tunnel before Monte Rio, that's what I was thinking.  But then I've been to all the tunnels except that one 'cause it was on private property so can't say for sure, but the curve seems right.
Way cool shot, would love to see a book with all the NPC photos available published therein.  Maybe that would bring out even more NPC pics.
