Did you guys notice the thing on the ground next to the engine which looked like an old hubcap!!! I have a feeling it is to help the engineer spot for the water spout. It seems to line up with the cab window! Maybe Roger can find out. There usually is something to help spot engines at all water stops. Also did they stop to pick-up the rider gondola at the Cumbres Siding? If not then there were no rider gons on the train.

Tell us the rest of the story about the gondola at the pass, but before you do let me speculate. The rider gondola was left at Cumbres earlier (the day before?) because with the extra caboose, K-36 #487 (I believe that was the engine #) already had the maximum number of cars a single engine could pull up the pass and a second engine and/or crew was not available for that trip.
