Steam & Excursion > Niles Canyon Photo Charter for the SP 1744Date: 10/26/20 16:36 Niles Canyon Photo Charter for the SP 1744 Author: charlesfranz The non-profit Pacific Locomotive Association and its Niles Canyon Railway in Sunol, Calif is hosting photographer's charters Dec 5 / 6 featuring the Columbia River Belt Line 2-4-4-2 "Skookum" with a period freight train, and separate chase train. All proceeds of the events will go directly to the restoration of Southern Pacific M-6, #1744, and includes a tour of the locomotive and overview of the restoration effort. Fun fact, RT airfare between Phoenix and San Jose on Southwest is less than the charter ticket. I worked for the Heber Creeper in Utah from 1980-82 and fired 1744 quite a few times. So I am glad she is being restored. And it will be great to see that neat 2-4-4-2 in action too.
