Saw on the Railway Preservation News website (RYPN) that CP 2816 Empress was steamed up in Calgary today.

Don't think that is true... boiler ticket expired unless they did some closed-door rebuild on her in the time she was down.

What "rebuild" would be required? Simply re-certifying the boiler per current regulations would not require a "rebuild".

Maybe you'd know Jack, could the boiler time have simply been suspended when it was put away ?

Well, since it's in Canada, are the Canadian rules the same as the US ones?

It is true. CP's management has healed sufficiently from its torture under EHH to again be thinking about PR. Keep an eye out for future CP presss releases.

I read on that other discussion where 2860 was in the shop as well.  Wouldn't a Hudson doubleheader be nice.  I just hope they can leave the diesels at home.  I would prefer to see a shorter train with steam only, for a more pure steam experience for the younger generation as well as the older ones.  Just sayin!  Now all we need is for CN to adopt 6060 once again!!!

How in the world would they get 2860 from Squamish to Calgary without anyone noticing?  I know the population density is pretty low in that part of Canada.  But surely at least one moose would have noticed!

What great memories of 2816 have returned.  Doubleheader with 261 in 2004.
