In 1937 this Baldwin 2-6-0 still exhibits a certain amount of style that belies her meager surroundings in the Grande Ronde, Oregon enginehouse of the Polk Operating Company.  In the stall next to her we see a Shay which gives away the Polk Operating Co. as a logging line.  This was not always the job for this handsome 2-6-0.

Built in 1891, she was originally the #525 on the Northern Pacific Railroad.  There she handled both mainline freight and some early passenger trains. After 25 years on the NP she was sold to the Newaukum Valley Railroad out of Onalaske, Washington.  There she began her career of being mostly a logging locomotive.  After more than 10 years on the NVR she was sold to the Polk Operating Company where she was still in service when Doug Richter caught her in August 1937.

With 46 years of operations behind her, she still put's in a day's work with no complaints.  How many of us could do the same thing?
