During summertime Amtrak crew shortages, I've actually had occasions where my conductor on our engineer/conductor-only crew couldn't tell by looking at the switch points which way we were going to go! And, of course, as the conductor he (or she) was the one in charge of the train. It's no wonder that on pull/pull or push/pull train operations many engineers started changing ends for all reverse movements after Amtrak made the engineer equally responsible with the conductor for all shoving movements. IIRC, that rule change took place in the mid-'90s. Date: 04/07/21 00:15 Re: Another Artsie One Author: BoilingMan Actually, he was backing.

LMAO!! ( ... if that ain't the ultimate "Gotcha!!!" I don't know what is... ;^) Lance/199 Date: 04/07/21 11:17 Re: Another Artsie One Author: BoilingMan This was SPNG 18 at Laws.
It was a night photo session, which is okay, but I’ve always found that most everyone there somehow manages to get better results than I do! One of life’s more subtle mysteries. So I kinda hang around the peripheries looking for the odd photo ops between the staged shots. This was one of those. 18 was backing East away from the turntable for the next setup. I grabbed this one as she went by, trailing steam & exhaust.
