On minute 3:29 of that film it shows a J-class 4-8-4 flying by what looks like a huge power plant does anyone have an idea where that plant is (or was) and does it still exist today?

Probably Glen Lyn, on the line Roanoke to Bluefield.  It's near the Narrows.
