Steam & Excursion > Did I see a Galloping Goose in Cortez, CO?Date: 05/04/21 10:14 Did I see a Galloping Goose in Cortez, CO? Author: Milwaukee I was just driving across the country and I thought I caught a quick glimpse of what looked to be a narrow guage Galloping Goose while driving through Cortez, Colorado (I think it was Cortez). I was days into a cross country drive and had already used up all of my credits for a quick side trip with my wife to check it out. I have learned that Galloping Goose #5 is located at the Galloping Goose Historical Society in Dolores, CO (which is not far from Cortez) and is apparently does move to other locations for special events. Does anyone know what I might have seen?
Thank you for your help. Date: 05/04/21 12:56 Re: Did I see a Galloping Goose in Cortez, CO? Author: SeaboardMan Never saw one there, but the local pawn shop sold me one of the marker lights for $5. Feeling guilty about the price I gave to the guys in Durango ( for free).

Author: ATSF1129 There's a fake Galloping Goose also in Southwestern Colorado, and I've seen it just south of Cortez along 491 (nee 666). It's a rubber tired contraption made to be 'Goose #8' and utililizes the same style of bus body, but was never an actual goose.

That's what I saw no doubt as I remember it didn't look to have the normal rear section in place that a real one would have had.
