Chasing steam in the "Skook" on the R&N
Author: bigsavage

Schuylkill County, PA. echoed with whistles this past weekend, as both CNJ 0-6-0 113 and Reading & Northern 4-6-2  425 ran excursions on several R&N mainlines and branches.
On Saturday, CNJ 113 ran from its home in Minersville, PA., to Port Clinton and back.
Hordes of railfans were out, making most locations cramped, at best.
1. 113 brings its consist into Minersville station
2. This is one big 0-6-0
3. R&N GP38-2 2011 brings up the rear, the crowd was overwhelming here.

Over Landingville Viaduct eastbound.
An extended service stop at Port Clinton made for a long wait for the westbound return trip as humidity, biting insects, and approaching rain showers started to challenge the group assembled at River Road just east of Auburn, PA.
Patience was finally rewarded, about 5 minutes after these photos, the rain deluge started, effectively ending our day.

I hope the benefit for Chris Bost was a financial success and those who chased and didn't ride at least made a contribution.

Sunday brought a little better weather for R&N 425 running trips out of Tamaqua, PA.
425 and train at Tamaqua station, ready to roll east to Hometown trestle
Fairview Rd., just east of Haucks, PA.

2011 leads the way south to New Ringgold at 1pm, crossing River Road at Reynolds, PA.
425 returns from New Ringgold here at Zehners, PA.
Unfortunately a companion's home commitments ended our day here.

That 425 is a sweetheart and has a great bark.  The Frisco OCD in me would love to drop that headlight down to 1" below center ans see how she looks.

And the "Southern Roads" in me would like to see it back atop the boiler as original...to both GM&N and BM&R.  :-)

You did very well. I can't pick a favorite, but it's between the two CNJ 113s going under the PRR Schuykill Branch truss bridge.

That 0-6-0 is a fine looking little engine.  (not really so little for an 0-6-0)
