Were shays ever used overseas or were they basically an American based locomotive?

Great pics of the Big 6.  I have only been to Cass once and that was some 30 years ago.
Did get to ride up to Bald Knob but not behind the 6.  It was buttoned up in the engine house.
I mentioned my desire to see the 6 and one of the very kind employees promptly took me over for a tour.
To say I was impressed would be an incredible understatement.  It is HUGE!
