Steam & Excursion > Railcars galore around Cheyenne round houseDate: 09/07/21 14:57 Railcars galore around Cheyenne round house Author: CaliforniaSteamin It surprises me with as neat and tidy the current manager is, that there is tons of equipment strewn around the Cheyenne roundhouse. Old f units, tenders, passenger cars that have been spliced and diced.....do they ever intend on cleaning this up and freeing up some space or is it a grave yard of sorts?

Here is a photo of us up at Fox Park, WY with the UP 900080 westbound. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/07/21 18:00 by Bob3985. Arlen I work in the mining industry and I keep waiting for someone to pull up past our boneyard and exclaim "OMG, you've got a Bucyrus-Erie 88B! We need to restore it and run it in your gravel pit!!" Edit: We don't, it was scrapped years ago... Cheers, Dave Date: 09/07/21 22:13 Re: Railcars galore around Cheyenne round house Author: heatermason Another pair.... I will never forget the photos of Sumpter Valley Railroad equipment scattered around as cabins and sheds in the National Forest in Eastern Oregon which survived decades up till just a handful of years before the restoration was begun. "Wise" heads decided to clean up. piled and burned.
On the other hand. more than once I have stood next to an operating piece of equipment which came from a "dump" or some "foolish" outfit that never got around to cleaning up to others' more stringent standards. I even got to shake the hand of a "fool" (now deceased) who bought an old steam locomotive and then stored it in his shed for decades. We rode behind it that day. Some of us see possibilities; some of us see junk deteriorating as eyesores (and sometimes they are right). Takes all kinds to make a world, as they say. The archaelogists, BTW, look for the ancient latrines where the best stuff is always found. They should trade it to the Portola Folks for their business car so it can be repainted Green and orange. Both are just hanging out gathering rust.

Date: 09/08/21 19:49 Re: Railcars galore around Cheyenne round house Author: wpjones It's really sad that Selma is sitting outside rotting away. It is the oldest car in the fleet ,1912 and has by far the most beautiful interior. It is also maybe the most historical having served the WP, MP and UP.
It would be cool at Portola as Feather River again in either paint scheme but really needs to be out on the road like it was in the 90's Steve TomG Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hey the Feather River doesnt look that bad.
