Monticello Railroad Days, 2021
Author: MaryMcPherson

Here are a few scenes from last weekend's Railroad Days at the Monticello Railway Museum.  Seen are Milwaukee Road NW2 #1649, Illinois & Midland RS1325 #31, Canadian National FPA4 #6789, Illinois Central GP11 #8733, Wabash F9A #1189, and an assortment of the museum's roster of restored passenger and freight equipment.

Enjoy!

Very nice.  My question is how long is the ride?  How much track do they have to operate on?  Thanks

White Heath to downtown Monticello is about seven miles.  From the Nelson Crossing depot on the museum grounds to the Wabash depot downtown is a bit over three miles.  Many rides go from Nelson Crossing toward White Heath and Monticello both, which increases the length.  The available track toward White Heath can vary due to storage cars on site, and the museun's original mainline between Nelson Crossing and White Heath laid on the abandoned Illinois Terminal roadbed is usually occupied by storage cars.  Excursions run on the parallel Illinois Central line.

The website shows about an hour run time for a typical trip, well worth the money. The folks at Monticello do a fantastic job and things keep growing.  The future includes a roundhouse to go along with the 90ft ex Rock Island turntable they received from Peoria, IL a few years back

Mary: Thanks for sharing some more great footage. However, the situation with the guy sitting in the boxdoor doorway is a bit scary, IMO. (At 1:31)
