The crew at Eddystone, PA at Baldwin Loco Works are doing some finish work on Frisco 4-8-2 #1527, which still exists in Mobile, AL with a hideous paint job including red drivers.  Sacrilege, but for now enjoy one of her birth photos.d  I scored this negative on ebay a couple weeks ago.  Pretty rare.
These engines were probably the GP9 equivalent as they excelled in everything they were used for.  Engine men loved them also.
The Sellers exhaust steam injector with its huge piping was the reason for the air reservoirs being moved up on top of the boiler on the 1515-1529.  Built as coal burners, 1520-1529 quickly were converted to oil.
I grew rather fond of one of her older sisters.

Really interesting image, Don - thanks. You got a good one here. Although I've probably seen photos before of final fitting-out done outside the high bays at Baldwin, Alco or Lima,. I had forgotten about them. So just to see this final step in building an engine is very interesting in itself. But that it's an SLSF 1500, well that makes the image particularly special. And just as with other images of other Frisco steam , the memories of our 1522 come back again. Sigh.

I wonder what kind of whistle that is ?  In most photos of those engines, they had the shop built, long bell three chime flat top, same as 1522 carried. I always figured they were shipped without a whistle, and it was probably installed after delivery, during setup.

You sure did get connected with one of her older sisters and we miss your comments and miss the operation of 1522.

Whistle appears to be a standard USRA chime whistle.  I think most of them were delivered like that.
