Interesting video Roger.  That road next to the RR doesn't look too bad. Seeing that I realized I was on the wrong road when I ventured back that way in a 1990 Dodge Min-van in 1992. I believe I was on that crappy looking on to the right at the 1:30 mark of your video.  I remember hitting sage brush growing between the tire marks in the road, and it was rough.  I also remember when we got near Fergusons, the trestle was off in the distance.  I did get a shot after the trestle then got the heck out of there!!!  I like the stuff right next to the engine the best, where you can see the driving wheels and rods.  A 1-2 minute video like that would be neat.

Not necessarily, that road has gotten so much traffic with chasers in the last five years that it's almost
become decent.

It was not to bad the last time I was on it. I use that road numerous times every year.

When I was out there for the Victorian Choo Choo gig I was surprised at how rough that road had become in the last 20 years.  The 4-wheelers and ATV have really torn it up.  The ruts have gotten much deeper and the vegetation taller.  It used to be you could case along side and get ahead of a train east of Ferguson's.  Now you can barely keep up.  I followed 168 and 425 west one day.  I was ahead of them at the Dump road and pushed hard all the way out to MP 287.5, dragging the bottom of my Escape in the sage brush.  I got to the crossing at 286.5 less than 3 minutes before the train got there.  It used to be an easy 25mph road.  Now its less than 15mph.  

Might be but up a ways you see passenger vehicles in spots that used to be ATV only.

I am thinking 15mph is about right.

I see passenger cars in a lot of spots I would not take a passenger car.

Wonderfull video!! While it's not West Virginia style vegetation, it certainly is representative of the west. I rode behind #168 last August and it's on my bucket list for a trip again this summer.  

P.S. This video makes the point that the Cumbres and Toltec indeed has the most scenic train ride in the US.

......which is a problem when the track speed is 20mph.
