Riding the Cuyahoga Valley line behind 4070 on the ex-B&O in Akron the engine was cut off and turned for the return trip north. The last couple images show some of the very nice heavyweight cars used at that time. Bob Date: 06/22/22 07:23 Re: Ex-Grand Trunk 4070 in Akron Author: King_Coal Those cars complimented the fine looking 4070. I'm sure I won't like the answer, but do the cars still exist?

Thanks for another outstanding posting. ALLEN Date: 06/22/22 19:35 Re: Ex-Grand Trunk 4070 in Akron Author: trainsfireengine Three of the heavyweight cars are still owned and operated by Midwest Railway Preservation Society.in Cleveland. They are NKP 62, NKP 90, both are open window coaches, and the Mount Baxter pullman/lounge NKP 90 was recently sand blasted and substantial metal replacement work was completed before painting.. The car is currently leased and in service in Cincinnati. The Mount Baxter is undergoing a major renovation which involves replacing many corroded window posts and replacing mahogany wood window frames. The work has started and is partially funded by two John Emery grants. The NKP 90 restoration was also funded by a John Emery grant, along with a grant from the Nickel Plate Road Historical and Technical Society. .Thank you John Emery for three garnts, and NKPHTS for one grant! NKP 62 was in Missippi for a film shoot recently. There was some cosmetic paint damage and broken window glass and that will be repaired. All three cars have roller bearings, and HEP connections, and they can be interchanged. They are not Amtrak certified. The Fort Eustis/Hot Springs C&O pullman is still in Cleveland at MRPS and it will need a major restoration inside and out. The cars are all 90 to 100+ years old and when you start to work on the bodies of them you encounter much more corrosion that was not visible.

Kinda looks like one of the cars Reading & Northern 425 has used in recent years...
