Thank you. The location is Tye River, north of Lynchburg. The former Southern crosses the James River at Lynchburg.
The remnants of hurricane Camille destroyed the prior double track bridge in 1969 (there were many deaths here in Nelson county) and Southern quickly rebuilt the bridge as single track using existing short trestle supports that they had on hand, thus the unusual bridge piers.
