Steam & Excursion > Soo Line 1003 at Sunset

The Steam Locomotive Heritage Association in Hartford WI ran their restored Soo Line 1003 down Metra's Milwaukee District North Line this evening. Knowing the train was scheduled to depart Fox Lake, IL at 7:30 pm, I headed north after work and foumd a nice curve a couple of miles east of Long Lake IL. Shortly before sunset and just before the sun ducked behind a cloud, 1003 and its train rolled by at 25 mph. 

The train waited for a westbound Metra at the Grayslkae station where I caught it just as it was leaving. 

I was feeling good about the results so I treated myself to a root beer float at the Grayslake Dog 'N' Suds. 

The train will spend tomorrow 8/6/22 at Metra's Western Avenue Coach Yard for an Employee's Family Day event before returning to Wisconsin on Sunday morning.

Thanks for shaing. Super Power steam is great, but there is something to be said about all the non-super power steamers that ran until the end of steam...
