Steam & Excursion > Railroad Days at the Monticello Railway MuseumDate: 09/17/22 19:44 Railroad Days at the Monticello Railway Museum Author: MaryMcPherson The third weekend of September rolls around, and that means that trains are rolling at the Monticello Railway Museum. It's the Railroad Days event, with multiple trains operating over the museum's mainline.
1. Wabash F9A #1189 pulls the streamliner past the Camp Creek Yard. 2. Illinois & Midland RS1325 #31 climbs the hill northbound after crossing the Camp Creek trestle. 3. Facing southbound, #1189 opens up on the short hill from Camp Creek. 4. #401 eases through the Camp Creek Yard at the beginning of the day. 5. Heading north, the train crosses Camp Creek. 6. The locomotive pulls through downtown Monticello after leaving the relocated former Wabash depot with the Monticello water tower marking the scene's location. Former Republic Steel 0-6-0 #191 ran at the museum into the late eighties, as did the Lincoln Sand & Gravel "critter" in the background. They are now static displays at the Nelson Crossing yard as #401 prepares to leave with another train.
8. #401 pulls away from the Nelson Crossing station with her second to last train of the day. 9. #401 climbs the hill north of Camp Creek as the end of the day nears. Trains will be running again tomorrow. Fundraising for repainting #31 is ongoing, along with the former Illinois Terminal SW1200 and the newly acquired Illinois Central SW14. Both of the switchers will also need extensive work to be made operational again. They ran out out of armbands for the day!
