Perhaps someday we will all meet in the big roundhouse with Bob, Lynn and others and hear a few more tales. Thanks for posting.

It does, except depending on the ambient temperature, you don't see the vapor. The whistle is supplied with superheated steam, from the superheater header, and and when the weather is nice and hot & dry, the white vapor cloud is not visible. Thanks for posting this excellent tribute to Bob. Back in the early 1960s, I forgot exactly when, my Dad tried to pace 844 on an excursion train that went west from Laramie. After they crossed the Laramie River bridge the UP engineer opened her up. The speedo in our car said 76 and the 844 passed up like we were standing still, and it was a long train with streamliner coaches, baggage cars, and a diner. It was dangerous to go any faster in those days on the Lincoln Highway! Eddy |
