Such a shame that not one of these was saved.

Wow, so much detail in that head-on photo!

Wow, an actual NYCS Hudson. It really doesn't look bad considering how long it has been out in service. Bob, do you have any more of those?

Bill sent me about fifteen photos forty years ago, and I haven't looked at these photos for about two decades. I'm just picking a couple at a time, but if there are good photos, I'll try to post them.

Yeah... the wording is awkward

."..... ..out in service..." Is NOT the same as 'out of service'...
It could be better...

But, to me, both the pictures show its as being LIVE....

They're handsome engines, but my favorite is the J3s,

W.

Sorry, I missed that. I read "out of service". I am getting old too.

I wonder how many men it took to pick up the coupler and put the bar under it?

Fortunately, it wasn't needed very often.

Victor, no problem. I'm old too. I should have included that that engine was built in 1930 or 31, so by 1955 it had been in service for 25 or 26 years and the Hudsons accumulated big monthly mileage in service.

I believe the front coupler has enough counterweight incorporated in the design to make it a one-man ((with a wrench) operation.  I believe CB&Q 5632 had a similar arrangement.
