For those that know infinitely more than I.

How would the EBT locomotives perform on the remaining D&RGW narrow gauge lines? Too big of drivers? Too heavy? Too light ? Not enough TE? Just one of those “I wonder” questions.

Won't be long now until the EBT valley is alive with the sounds and smells of the magic of steam.  Thanks again to Wick Moorman, Bennett Levin, Henry Posner and the EBT team for brining this hational treasure back to life.

The biggest issue would be longer rigid wheelbase.  The D&RGW had 44" drivers on 49" centers on the 3 classes of larger Mikes.  The EBT's three different series of locomotives had 48" drivers on an unknown to me centers.  The Rio Grande had a few 24 degree curves, the EBT's sharpest was around 17 degrees.  The largest EBT locomotives #'s 16, 17 & 18 were of the same Baldwin class as the Rio Grande's 480's, but were a bit lighter and with larger drivers had lower tractive effort.

Thanks for the info, steam power is damn interesting. From traction engines, railway locomotives, steam automobiles and motorcycles , to boats and ships. Some of the stuff on the InterTube is just amazing.

>Probably do alright.  The EBT locos have a bit less TE because of the larger drivers but weight is within range of D&RGW rail.  Regarding rigid wheel base, EBT locos all have a 13 foot wheelbase except 16,17, and 18 which have 13.5 feet. The K-28 and K-36 D&RGW locos are 12.25 feet according to Steamlocomtive.com. The extra 10 or so inches on the EBT engines probably could work on the mainline rail but might be troublesome in the yard.  Here is a comparison table I put together a couple of years ago:
