Nice to see it in the red and orange.  Those American Freedom Train colors never seemed fit for that engine.

If it wasn't for the AMERICAN FREEDOM TRAIN she might still be sitting in Oaks Park, or worse The Scrappers Torch. As a 12 year old kid going through the AMERICAN FREEDOM TRAIN was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I am grateful to everyone that put it together. If she is ever permanently retired, she should be put in the Smithsonian proudly wearing the RED WHITE AND BLUE

as I talk to our visitors viewing our AFT exhibit at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, I also tell them that if it weren't for being selected for the AFT romp, yes the 4449 and other two locos would be very probably sitting near Oaks Park rusting away or like you say a can  full of string beans.   there are key turning points in most stories.
