Steam & Excursion > Couple of Frisco scenes from the early '40sDate: 02/04/23 14:18 Couple of Frisco scenes from the early '40s Author: Frisco1522 4-6-0 #736 is arriving at the Lindenwood (St. Louis) yards with an EB troop train in Feb 1943. 80 years ago! Most likely coming from Ft. Leonard Wood.
4-8-2 #1501 is WB at Southeastern Jct with No. 1 on a summer evening. Taken from the steps of the tower. Both photos by William Barham, negs my collection. 1501 is still with us, on display at Rolla, MO. She donated her pistons and piston rods to 1522. Recently cosmetically worked over and looking fine. Nothing fancy: reclining-seat chair cars, diner, parlor Denison to San Antonio, Standard Pullmans for Dallas, Ft. Worth, and San Antone. Good solid ride!

The line from Union Station was signaled all the way back then and 1501 is doing track speed all the way out on the main line. Spic and span Frisco power prevailed on passenger trains (and most freights when time permitted). It was a class act! I already like the Frisco, but I think you’re trying to turn me into a Coonskin fanatic… 😉
