Looks like DM&IR but can't be sure, think its a Bruce Black photo and have no idea when or where ... even guesses welcome ; ^ )

NICE, ROARING-HOT FIRE!

Every bit of 3,000F!  
750+ superheat to the pistons...

The NOISE is intense.....!

He's got a nice big 'heel", across the back of the grates...
85% of the grates are covered in about a 2-inch deep, flat,
white-hot fire-bed.  
He can go for miles, just like that... with a heavy train,
they almost fire themselves.

Looks like southbound loaded ore at Bear Trap Curve near Grand Lake,MN. heading for Proctor. Nice !

Southbound loaded ore train on the Messabi Division a few miles north of Proctor (near Duluth, MN). Engine is a 2-8-8-4.

Another spotting feature that helps confirm DM&IR is that he is running left-hand on double track which was their standard.
