You've got some really nice B&W photos here. Thanks for the look.

Suggestion to the crew, out of caution order some safety uprights and safety railings for your Scaffold from the plaster supply house.
You may not think you need it, but I recommend it.

Keep up the nice work.  Now Back to work.

Very nice! I walked around the Evanston roundhouse complex when the eastbound 4014/844 doubleheader was in town. Wonderful place! I assume they're planning on running this engine there? There seemed to be quite a bit of track scattered about the property, how much of it will they be able to use?

The plan is to eventually run locally, but where hasn't been determined at this point.

NOW I finally understand why they  put it in the Roundhouse backwards.  To get flues, tubes and superheater units out.
Volunteer or contract work?

In the 'house, tender first...

Not so much for the getting out of the original flues and
tubes.  It's for the re-install work --- as to why you want
all that room in the front.

Modelers take note:  roundhouse pit tracks always have the lagre
glass-pane widows at the ends of the house tracks ---account of
many older locos tendency to 'walk away' when parked with live steam
in the bolier...

Going through the glass window and the low brick wall,
made for easier roundhouse reconstruction & repairs...

Inexperienced hostlers did not secure the loco from becoming
a 'creeper'

1. On the top of the cylinder casting ( upper portion containing
the steam distributing valve), there is a venting steam cock,
or globe valve, that must be openend when  the loco is parked.

2.   When leaving the cab unattended. always make  sure
that the cylinder drain cocks are left in the 'open' position.
( commonly called the "cylinder cocks"

3.   Always chock, or use chocking-chains, under multiple drivers
  to "chock the wheels".

4.  ( rare:  If the loco/tender configuration is equipped with
tender mounted handbrake, always be certain that the
hand brakes are tightly applied at the relevant wheel and axles.

Depending on the driver crankpin position, the loco may creep
the other direction, dropping the rear tender truck in the turntable pit.
Or, if the loco was backed into the stall, the loco might creep,
putting it 'nose-down' in the TT pit..
See relevant photos..
