Thanks for posting the beginnings of 4014's 2023 adventure.

A diesel is needed to shove that thing around the yard?

The diesel is needed for PTC.

Didn't I see somewhere around here that 4014 is PTC equipped?
So is it equipped but not commissioned or what?

I don't know which is why I'm asking.

A PTC system involves sensors and controls, the sensors are in the 4014, the controls are in the 4015. The air brake system
on the 4014 is not set up to take the PTC commands, the diesel handles that.

What is the consist. I don't see the Tool Car, Art Lockman.

There's a youtube video of the test run, the consist looks like Art Lockman, Howard Fogg, Lynn Nystrom, a flatcar (can't tell what the load is) 9 covered hoppers and waycar 25809.

I think you got that essentially right, if backwards.  The 4014 piggybacks off 4015's PTC equipment.

Mary, that's exactly what I said. The controlling devices (air) are in the 4015.

Don't think so, i.e. the "air" is controlled by the steam locomotive, 4014. Since 844, 3985, and 4014 (which is now equipped with all the electric-to-air components from 3985) all had cab signal equipment, it probably was very difficult to install the computer screen in the cab of 4014. The PTC master interface equipment is back in the diesel, 4015, with electrical cable connections forward to 4014. At least that is the way I understand it from the descriptions provided some years ago.
