Steam & Excursion > UP 4014 Evanston to Salt Lake City, 07-04-2024

I enjoyed a productive chase yesterday during 4014's run from Evanston to Salt Lake City.

1. I caught 4014 at the grade crossing at Wahsatch to begin my chase for the day. Running on Main 1 the 4000-class managed a little smoke before descending into Echo Canyon.

2. A cheeky grab from the freeway shoulder just west of Castle Rock, UT. The elevated right of way for Main 2 is visible in the background.

3. Having just departed Ogden, UT, 4014 steams towards Salt Lake City in Roy, UT with the Wasatch mountains in the distance.

A few more:

1. UP 4014 glides down the final stretch of Echo Canyon. The green light on Main 1 is for an eastbound freight that has stalled at the base of the hill with power issues.

2. UP 4014 runs the curve at Henefer, UT while an intermodal train waits for lights to proceed eastbound. Traffic east was backed up all morning as a train had stalled at the base of Echo Canyon with undiagnosed power issues.

3. UP 4014 crosses US-89 at Uintah on its run to Salt Lake City.

Great shots, some nice new spots there. As for the "undiagnosed power" issues, uh that would be
not enough of it and what was there was being poorly maintained.

The manager of the steam program took up that initiative from day 1. Chances are he was the one that got the chalk back out.

Should have borrowed the BB to push the stalled freight!

That shot at Uintah is reallyl nice!  The freight cars in the background make it look like 4014 is pulling a long train.
