Frisco's new kids on the block.
Author: Frisco1522

Two new Baldwin 4-8-4s, 4512 and 4511 are being moved off of Terminal Railroad Association's Belt line onto the Frisco at Southeastern Jct. in August of 1942 ironically by a Baldwin Diesel Switcher..
Frisco received 25 of the 4-8-4s beginning in 1942. The first 3 4500-4502 were oil burners and painted blue and white with the train name Meteor on the side of the tender in red. Starting with 4503 the next bunch were 4503-4514 with Baldwin Disk drivers and burned coal. The final series 4515-4524, also coal burners were received in '43 and had BoxPok drivers and were booster equipped.  West Shop added boosters to the original coal burners after a short period.
The coal burners were also well decorated with the Frisco Faster Freight fireball and striping on the tender in red and white.
Bill Barham was on hand to welcome them aboard.

Another fantastic Frisco steam image. I knew that Frisco power was delivered off the TRRA Belt. But I don't think I have ever seen an image of one of the deliveries (much less of these iconic Northerns), particularly not one showing the engines moving through the switch off the Terminal at Southeastern Jct.

Absolutely outstanding. Many thanks, Don.

Wow !  Too bad it wasn't coated in cosmoline , and hidden away somewhere.  Looks like no piston rods and part of the valve gear not installed yet.   Great photo.

Several of the 4500s were kept in "strategic reserve" as well as some 1500s and 4200s. The 4500s sat and decayed until late 50s-early 60s, still with equipment trust plates on them.
