Had a chance to ride the 700 along this route and chase the 4449 both ways on this
route (Sandpointe, Idaho to Billings, Mt)

I just went through Frenchtown the day before yesterday and years before,  I saw the SP&S 700 at this same spot.  It's fun chasing steam, but it can get scary at times.  Lots of wild drivers.  I also got to see this 4449 trip from Sandpoint, Idaho to Whitefish , Montana.  I hope either of them come back someday, but I'm not holding my breath.

Mullan Rd. (Montana Secondary route #263) grade-crossing near M/p 136.1
on then-MRL’s 4th subdivision, w/in ⅖ mi.E/b from site of former NP/BN’s
Frenchtown depot (now located in Alberton as an antique shop).  Recall
weather improved on E/b trip, but then deteriorated rapidly for W/b the
following week.
