Steam & Excursion > Canadian Pacific 3101–Possible RestorationDate: 05/12/25 15:58 Canadian Pacific 3101–Possible Restoration Author: SCREAMINGCRYING Apparently, Someone named Gary Southgate has purchased Canadian Pacific 3101, the 4-8-4 on displayed outside of a steel mill (i believe) in Regina, and is planning to restore to operation. His plan is to build 25 miles (40km) of tourist lines. He's already purchased a few a units and a bunch of passenger cars.

Date: 05/12/25 16:18 Re: Canadian Pacific 3101–Possible Restoration Author: sarailfan Mr Southgate has been acquiring equipment for some time now; the original poster on that thread didn't initially show much knowledge of that fact, despite supposedly being involved with preparations for moving the 3101 out of Regina. I'd take the news with a large grain of salt.
That said, I'd love to see him fulfill his dream, and will definitely head out to Eastend to see the 3101 if it makes it to operation! Facts will appear on this issue, and I would not spend a dime until I knew about the owner's plans. Date: 05/12/25 18:13 Re: Canadian Pacific 3101–Possible Restoration Author: SCREAMINGCRYING here's some more info:

Who is asking anyone to spend any money on this? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/12/25 20:12 by RuleG. Does anyone know of anything he restored or operates?

Not sure if anyone is asking you to spend anything: https://www.farmshow.com/a_article.php?aid=38237&fbclid=IwY2xjawKQjp5leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFrQktZUFdtOTlTMUJTR2ZhAR4OMgY1bsjbnjGPfXz79v1mpFLfMKS87Z-Y8YBfNdDfiYhvRbZsVJ2Aq7dcTQ_aem_8is-PIX5c35TXcUvHSofwQ "Over 9 years, in addition to farming 3,000 acres of his own land and renting 3,000 more for grain crops, Southgate has acquired about 45 passenger, dining, sleeper, and other cars along with five engines. Between buying, moving, and renovating them he’s invested well into 7 figures of his own money and has yet to gain much income.... “We’re trying to preserve rail history while creating a tourism and educational venue that will interest people of all ages,” Southgate says. “It’s been a long and time-consuming process, but we’re getting much closer to having a viable enterprise.” https://www.sasktoday.ca/north/agriculture/antique-train-prepares-to-hit-the-rails-5443109“So the plan is to do a historic scenic tour from Eastend to Ravensgrag and Robsart, which is about a 16-mile track,” said Rogers.“Then also between Shaunavon and Eastend.” Date: 05/15/25 19:10 Re: Canadian Pacific 3101–Possible Restoration Author: wabash2800 Wouldn't it be easer, less costly and take less time and to acquire or lease a railroad rather than build one? Or perhaps that was how it was worded by the OP.
