Date: 06/09/25 05:39 Re: UP 4420 0-6-0 Restoration (12th visit) at Evanston, Wyoming Author: Frisco1522 If you can find a place in town that could hone the bore on the power reverse, preferably with a Sunnen Products hone you'll have a nice round, straight bore. Also replace the packing cups and avoid a problem later. Don't ask me how I know that. Lap the valve surfaces well and you'll get years of service from it.

Excellent work. The brake cylinders were traded to him for honing when he dropped off the reverser. The slide valve is lapped. The reverser was tested prior to disassembly. Nose one seals will be fabricated when .5 x .5” graphite material arrives. Date: 06/09/25 13:35 Re: UP 4420 0-6-0 Restoration (12th visit) at Evanston, Wyoming Author: Frisco1522 One of our packing cups on the power reverse piston developed thin spot, then an small hole and made the engine impossible to hook up. If you tried to hook the engine up, the power reverse would shuttle back and forth rapidly because the pressure wouldn't equalize and maintain where you set it. We had to run all the way home from Memphis with the engine down in the corner. If you were running and tried to hook it up, it made the damndest exhaust noises you've ever heard.
You won't have to worry about that since I'm sure all your operations will be locally around the roundhouse. |
