Very nice of the mighty 1218.  Lot's of good memories for all of us who enjoyed the great Southern Railway (later Norfolk Southern) Excursions from the past, thanks for sharing the photo, Bob.

If she is westbound, we chased the 1218 from Payne, Ohio on this very stretch of old NKP right away into New Haven, Indiana and East Wayne Yard. With old Indiana Hwy 14 paralleling this mainline for many miles, it was quite a show!!! Thanks for sharing. A lot of memories!!!

That was one heck of a loco.  It really needs to be back out on the mainline somewhere hauling fans here and there.

If I thinking correctly this was the Ohio State Fair train. I was 6 years old and loving it.

This was right after the NRHS convention in Roanoke and was 1218's first visit to the Midwest during its excursion career. This was a Toledo-Columbus roundtrip (with diesels used between Toledo and Bellevue, likely because according to records there was a Bellevue-Columbus RT the next day). Excursions out of the Bellevue/Toledo area were usually sponsored by the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum and, based on the time frame and destination, this trip was indeed going to the Ohio State Fair.
