Author: Earlk Tahoe, Trout Creek & Pacific. Formerly Hawaii Ry #5. The TTC&P was a project of Scenic Railways, Inc., the original operator of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR. The TTC&P had a few miles of track in the Lake Tahoe, CA area. It ran a few years in the late 1960's-early 1970's. When Scenic Rys decided to concentrate on operating the C&TS, they closed the TTC&P and moved the equipment to Chama for storage. Other equipment moved to Chama included Oahu Ry #19, a 47-ton GE diesel and Kahului Ry #12 a 2-6-2. #12 was shipped in a dismantled state. #19 is still in Chama.
When Scenic Rys gave up the operation of the C&TS in 1982, the equipment remained in Chama for a few years before being sold off. H.Ry #5 is now in Connecticut, the #12 is at the Georgetown Loop RR. As mentioned #19 was purchased be the C&TS RR Commission and remains in Chama. Date: 06/25/25 07:17 Re: What is TTC&P reporting marks? Date: 06/25/25 11:02 Re: What is TTC&P reporting marks? Author: Earlk #5 was fired up and run exctly once in its time in Chama. In 1972 it was fired up and with caboose 0503 in tow made it a couple of miles out of Chama. The air compressor would not run and the caboose's hand brake was the entire braking system for the trip back. It was never run again in Chama. In the winter of 1984-5 it was loaded on a truck and shipped out to its initial purchaser in California.
Scenic Rys other small locomotive, Kahului Ry #12 was sold off in the early 1980's to the Midwest Central in Iowa where they rebuilt it , including replacing the boiler. It ran at the Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho before going to the Georgetown Loop. |
