Date: 07/05/25 16:17 Re: 4014 cab rides Author: mcdeo For that price, I'd rather operate over the Cumbres and Toletic for 4 days and being able to actually operate the steam locomotive! It's been a couple of years since their engineer/fireman program, but last I heard, they do want to bring it back. Wish Durango would offer something similar.
Mike ONeill Parker, CO Date: 07/05/25 16:55 Re: 4014 cab rides Author: jkh2cpu Back in the old days standing by the engine and yelling 'Mister, can I come up?' got me lots of deck rides during the early steam excursions when the Diesels were the winners and steam had been counted out.
Those were the good old days. Date: 07/05/25 20:50 Re: 4014 cab rides Author: weather Auction money supports the UP museum, an excellent cause.
Date: 07/05/25 22:41 Re: 4014 cab rides Author: ConductorsSon I was a member of the Illinois Railroad Museum 26 years ago before we moved to Santa Rosa CA. and my lovely wife of 39 year bought me an "Engineer for a Day" gift for my 50Th birthday. I was able to ride the last revenue trip of the day in the cab of the steamer and then upon returning to the station was able to take the train out at the controls. I'm fairly mechanically adept so it was a delightful experience except for the revers er gear as to this day I still don't really understand.
