Charging Out of Town
Author: MaryMcPherson

As you may have guessed, I've had the scanner running.  The easiest tell?  Photo-bombing the steam board!  With my collection of slides and negatives completely scanned, it's time to move to another project: the Jim Adams collection.  This is the first image off the scanner this afternoon.

This photo is not exactly what Lucius Beebe would drool over, and that's okay: I find it dramatic and gave an audible "Wow!" when the scanned image popped up on the screen for the first time.

What we see here is one of Illinois Central's passenger mountains, number 2418, headed northbound against the afternoon sun.  There were no details with the image, but as Jim lived and worked for the I.C. at Centralia, Illinois, it is quite likely this is where the photo was taken.  In the foreground is a tri-light signal, turned to the side to indicate that it is not in service.  Is it a new installation or being removed?  We'll never know.

Unconventional to be sure, but I like this shot!
