If they weren't spending so much money rebuilding #5 correctly they could rebuild the bridge! Seriously, we talk about Strasburg and other
excellent steam shops, MRSR doesn't take a back seat to anyone. Subscribe to their Youtube page, it's an excellent way to see and understand
what a 1472 can truly entail.

Love to see it. I just vsited the Mt Rainier Scenic for the first time after being a fan of their online presence for a while. It's a totally top-notch operation all the way down. Everyone there is friendly and welcoming to all - regardless of existing knowledge level or skill set. Folks like them who create a welcoming space for young enthusiasts and volunteers will be the reason that steam preservation still exists in 50 years. I know so many young people with a passion for preservation and the drive to get stuff done who have been shunned, driven away and disillusioned by controlling old heads who refuse to accept anyone who's not a purist or doesn't already know every last practice or detail that they do.

The purists may not like everything they do at Mt Rainier Scenic, but that's the truth. From reading many of the comments on their page and in past posts on this forun, I get the vibe that many of those folks are the most upset that they have a competent, smart woman in charge - but I'm willing to give folks the benefit of the doubt in lieu of starting more flame wars online. The entire team, including Rowdy and the whole shop crew, has a passion for their work that shines through everything they do. Their Youtube presence is excellent and informative (check out the "everything regulatory ever" rant if you've ever wondered how the inspection process *actually* works) and shows how deeply everyone there cares about their work.

I hope they're able to get that bridge replaced as soon as possible and catch the deeply sick individual who burned it down and bring them to justice.

For now, I'll keep donating to the bridge fundraiser when I can.
