Steam & Excursion > A Few From R&N's "Iron Horse Ramble" 8-23-25

1. Reading & Northern's "Iron Horse Ramble" is N/B, on its way to Pittston, PA, as it approaches the North Mermon Avenue grade crossing at MP 118 of R&N's Lehigh Division Main Line. R&N T-1 4-8-4 Northern 2102 is on the point with 15 cars behind the tender. 9:08AM on 8-23-25 in Nesquehoning, PA.

2. After a 4 1/2 hour layover in Reading & Northern's Pittston Yard at the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station, the return trip to Nesquehoning departed at 5:00PM. Seventeen minutes later, R&N T-1 4-8-4 Northern 2102 has just crossed Oak Street and is putting on quite a show of sound & smoke. 5:17PM on 8-23-25 in Pittston, PA.

3. After a brief stop at Penobscot, PA to take on water, R&N T-1 4-8-4 Northern 2102 is on the move again. Here, approaching the Kirby Avenue grade crossing, putting on quite a show of clanking rods, smoke and a great sounding whistle. 6:08PM on 8-23-25 in Glen Summit/Mountain Top, PA.

Outstanding images!

Great shots of a great trip.  I'm impressed that R&N does not use a water car with 2102.  They have those trips perfected.  

For the Nesquehonning to Pittston trip they do stop and take on water in from a tank car at Pennobscot in both directions.  And also take on water during the Pittston layover from another tank car.  Excellent photos of an awesome trip.  Can't wait for October to ride again.

Thanks for the great 2102 photos. I was on board the trip so didn't get to see it on the ground action. However, the trip and steam loco sounds in the second open window coach were awesome!
